Material Information Sheet

Ultem® PolyEtherImide (PEI) combines high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures with long term heat resistance. It offers excellent dimensional stability combined with broad chemical resistance. Ultem® is also inherently flame resistant and low smoke generating. It excels in medical reusable applications requiring repeated sterilization and is available in FDA compliant colors. Ultem® 1000 - Unfilled Ultem® excels in hot air and water environments. It's hydrolytically stable -- it retains 85% of tensile strength after 10,000 hour boiling water immersion and 100% of tensile strength after 2,000 steam autoclave cycles at 270°F. It is also UV and gamma radiation resistant. Glass Reinforced Ultem® greater rigidity and dimensional stability while maintaining many useful characteristics of basic Ultem®. The glass reinforcement yields a product with an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and increased tensile strength. Ultem® 2100 - 10% glass filled Ultem® 2200 20% glass filled Ultem® 2300 - 30% glass filled.

PEEK™ (PolyEtherEther-Ketone) offers superior chemical and water resistance working continuously to 480°F (250°C) and in hot water or steam without permanent loss in physical properties. For hostile environment applications such as oil drilling & exploration or semiconductor manufacturing, PEEK ™ is a high strength alternative to fluoropolymers. PEEK ™ carries a V-0 flammability rating and exhibits very low smoke and toxic gas emission when exposed to flame. Unfilled PEEK ™ is FDA approved, so it can be used in food processing and medical applications. PEEK properties include excellent temperature resistance, low friction (bearing grades), dimensional stability (glass- and carbon-filled grades), radiation resistance, low out gassing, and exhibits good machinability. New high temperature (PEEK HT) grade available.

Rulon® High compressive strengths, low coefficient of friction, and excellent abrasion and corrosion resistance while running without lubrication. These materials are used in bearing and seal applications at temperature extremes from -400°F to +500°F (-240°C to +260°C) with or without additional lubricants. Rulon ® materials also have the unique property of no "slip stick" --- no erratic motion at low speeds. Rulon ® LR can also be bonded to nearly any surface to provide wear resistance and reduce friction. MAROON in color. Rulon ® J This is the best Rulon grade for aluminum and soft mating surfaces. Lowest coefficient of friction of all Rulons, and provides good wear and abrasion resistance. It can be run on non-ferrous and non-metallic mating surfaces. DULL GOLD in color. Rulon ® 641 Specifically developed for food and drug applications. Runs dry without any moisture or lubrication. WHITE in color. Rulon ® AR Best combination of flexibility and load-carrying properties. It has high wear resistance, low friction, and good electrically insulative and chemical properties. Since, its fillers are ceramic in nature, mating surfaces should be RC35 or harder. MAROON in color. Rulon ® 142 For extremely heavy loads. Ideal for linear bearing applications such as slideways in machine tools and heavy equipment, and may also be used in expansion joints and bridge pads. This material provides low friction, excellent unlubricated wear properties and good heat dissipation and is etched one side for adhesive bonding to the steel substrate. Rulon ® 123 This FDA compliant material is excellent for wet or submerged applications providing excellent service against soft and non-ferrous mating surfaces. BLACK in color.

Vespel® is one of the highest performing engineering plastics currently available. Vespel® will not melt and can operate continuously from cryogenic temperatures to 550°F (288°C), with excursions to 900°F (482°C). Vespel® parts consistently exhibit superior performance in a variety of applications requiring low wear and long life in severe environments. Excellent temperature resistance • High wear resistance (especially SP-21) • Dimensionally stable • Resistant to radiation • Extremely low outgassing • Relatively easy to machine. Uses Rotary seal rings • Thrust washers and discs • Bushings • Flanged bearings • Plungers • Printer wire guides • Spline couplings • Wear strips • Valve seats • Thermal and electrical insulators • Wafer clamping, polishing and grinding rings • Wafer guides & carriers • Vacuum pads • Die pickup collet. Vespel ® SP-1 is the unfilled base resin grade. SP-1 provides maximum physical strength, elongation, and toughness as well as the best electrical and thermal insulation values. Vespel ® SP-21 has 15% graphite by weight added for increased wear resistance and reduced friction in applications with the highest mechanical properties of the graphite filled grades. Vespel ® SP-22 has 40% graphite by weight for enhanced wear resistance, lower friction, improved dimensional stability (low coefficient of thermal expansion), and stability against oxidation. Typical uses are the same as those for SP-21. Vespel ® SP-211 has 10% PTFE and 15% graphite by weight added to the base resin for the lowest coefficient of friction over a wide range of operating conditions. It also has excellent wear resistance up to 300°F (149°C). . Vespel ® SP-3 is 15% moly-filled for wear and friction resistance in vacuum and other moisture-free environments where graphite actually becomes abrasive.
